ALZ magazine — Executive Editor

I managed a team of writers, editors and designers, generated, assigned, wrote and edited articles, sourced photos and video, directed layout and design, and managed the print/digital production and distribution of the 200,000+ print and 2 million+ digital circulation magazine.

My philosophy when it comes to assignments (both editorial and marketing) is to give writers ample direction and make it clear what I’m hoping to see in a finished product. I’m known for my detailed article assignments (and doing extensive research into a topic before giving out an assignment) as well as making sure writers are set up for success with background information and sources.

 

Special projects and partnerships — TIME magazine and Better Homes & Gardens

As Executive Editor of ALZ, I tripled digital/print circulation of the magazine. Part of the strategy for growing distribution was engaging in special partnerships with other magazines that had a similar readership demographic. In 2021, I led a partnership with TIME magazine, running a special 13-page preview edition of ALZ off the back cover of TIME’s 1.6 million copies. The double-sided issue was a first in TIME’s 100-year history. In 2022, I led a partnership with Better Homes & Gardens, including a special 12-page preview edition of ALZ with targeted BH&G subscriber issues. Both of these partnerships led to significant increases in ALZ subscribers while also increasing public concern for Alzheimer’s and raising awareness of the Alzheimer’s Association (the two main missions of the magazine). I directed content for the ALZ website, using analytics to help drive coverage. The website content was promoted on all Association social media channels and through email. I wrote and edited the emails (see examples below), social and other promotional copy for the magazine.
